We are always excited about meeting new patients during their first visit to our office! Your initial appointment will last an hour-and-a-half, and a parent or guardian should accompany a child or adolescent to this appointment.
One of our treatment coordinators will give you a tour of the office, take a screening Panorex X-ray and photographs and review your medical history. This Panorex X-ray gives Dr. G a full view of your teeth and jaws. The photographs of your teeth allow Dr. G to better illustrate the treatment he recommends. After the visit, we will send a copy of the X-ray to your family dentist, and you will be able to take a set of photographs home with you.
Dr. G will then complete a thorough examination of your teeth and bite. He will dictate his examination to a treatment coordinator who will document the findings in your chart. All of this will give us insight into your orthodontic needs, and Dr. G will be able to discuss your potential treatment options. If treatment is needed, to expedite the process, we will complete diagnostic records while you are already at the office. These records include the X-rays and photographs taken by the treatment coordinator and impressions for study models.
During the initial appointment, we will address the following questions that cover the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.
- Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
- Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
- What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
- Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
- How long will treatment take?
- How much will it cost?
- What are my payment options?
After we discuss treatment options, we will talk about the length of treatment and your financial arrangements. We insist that our patients leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of and how long it will take. Also, we will answer any additional questions.
